Council amends agenda to add opioid-settlement participation, approves minutes and consent agenda, and moves into executive session

At its April 21 meeting the Anniston City Council amended the agenda to include a motion authorizing the mayor to execute and submit a combined participation form to join national prescription opioid litigation settlements and to add an executive session. The amendment was seconded and approved by roll call.

The council also moved to waive reading and approve the minutes of the previous meeting and approved the consent agenda by roll call votes. Later in the evening the chair made a motion to enter executive session to discuss the purchase, sale, exchange, lease or market value of real property and preliminary negotiations involving trade and commerce; the motion was seconded and the roll call vote carried.

The motions passed on roll calls recorded in the meeting transcript; council members present answered in the affirmative during roll call and the clerk declared the motions approved. No substantive details from the executive session were made public at the meeting.

The agenda amendment will place the mayor’s authorization to join the opioid settlement on the consent agenda for formal approval; staff indicated this is a form to accept participation in a larger, multi-jurisdictional settlement process and to access any funds due under those actions.
