CCRPC equity manager outlines engagement work, will provide written summaries starting in January

Anne Nelson Stoner, CCRPC Equity & Engagement Manager, updated the Joint Finance and Executive Committee on equity work, methodology for assessing environmental benefits and burdens, and agreed to submit succinct written summaries of equity work beginning in January.
Anne Nelson Stoner, Equity & Engagement Manager for the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission, briefed the Joint Finance and Executive Committee on Nov. 6 about ongoing equity work and outreach plans and said she will begin submitting succinct written summaries to Board and committee packets in January.
Stoner summarized recent activities: attending the State Office of Racial Equity’s Apiary for Movement Builder’s conference, presenting with CCRPC staff at a Northern New England chapter of the American Planning Association (NNECAPA) event, and presenting to a University of Vermont class. She said staff are drafting a Board & Committee Code of Conduct and beginning updates to the Public Participation Plan. Stoner described work to develop a methodology for evaluating environmental benefits and burdens to support an upcoming Future Land Use Mapping process.
Committee members said written summaries would be helpful but requested brevity to avoid adding to Stoner’s workload. Bard Hill suggested a succinct one-page format, and Chair Chris Shaw asked about the intended distribution format. Charlie Baker offered to include the summaries under his board report and to place them in packet materials. Catherine McMains supported including the updates as part of the packet with opportunity for questions. Stoner agreed to begin submitting written summaries in January.
Stoner also reported that the Equity Advisory Committee attended meetings and that GMT attended the last EAC meeting to discuss ways to support advocacy and outreach; she said the EAC will likely support GMT’s outreach and might testify at the legislature. The committee was notified that draft bylaw language to recognize the Equity Advisory Committee will be reviewed as part of a December agenda item on bylaws and board development. The committee did not take formal action on these items at the Nov. 6 meeting; they were provided as verbal updates and slated for future packet materials.
The committee will revisit bylaw language and any proposed changes to committee recognition at the December meeting.
