Stream Team reports outreach numbers; committee discusses construction inspection training and resources

Macie Broussard reported that Stream Team outreach for the year is largely complete, with one remaining outreach event planned in Milton. Broussard said tabling reached 196 residents, stream monitoring had 10 volunteers, adopt-a-rain-garden had three volunteers, and Adopt-a-Drain reached 147 cumulative volunteers.
Broussard asked members to flag if they ordered program apparel and to help recruit and retain volunteers; Dan Albrecht suggested researching the cost of a Front Porch Forum post to promote the Adopt-a-Drain towns. Broussard also raised time-budgeting concerns for program work and staff asked members to notify staff if workload growth requires revisiting allocations.
On construction inspections, Lisa Cicchetti asked how other municipalities conduct inspections. Marisa Rorabaugh said South Burlington lacks a fully codified procedure but is working to formalize inspections and suggested the EPA's construction inspection training as a useful resource. Sam Hughes of Vermont DEC Stormwater said he would pass along the committee's interest to the State for potential training. Annie Costandi described Essex's use of the low-risk site handbook and a formal inspection form, and noted the Town can require repeat violators to hire an engineer.
An update to the Rethink Runoff advertising campaign was postponed because David Barron of Pluck had a family emergency; that presentation is expected at a future meeting. The committee scheduled a full budget vote for Oct. 1.
