The Belle Vernon Area School District board approved a bundle of routine agenda items and several vendor contracts at its April meeting while rejecting a gym‑floor change order by roll call.
On curriculum, the board approved the purchase, adoption and implementation of McGraw Hill Wonders grammar for grades 3–6. The board also approved a set of grouped curriculum and agreement items (items 1–7) on a single motion earlier in the meeting.
Finance and procurement votes included approval of the 2026–27 WIU and Central Westmoreland CTC general operating budgets by roll call, award of the tire bid to Goode Tire Service for the 2026–27 school year, approval of recorded fuel bids as listed, and approval of invoices from Nickel Reporting Services. The board also approved a master service agreement with WIU and several reconciliation and interim bill items reported by the finance committee.
A proposed change order related to the gym floor was put to a roll call vote; all recorded votes were 'No' and the motion failed 0–8. The chair clarified that the vote concerned the change order itself.
Other approvals included a one‑year extension with Turner's Dairy for 2026–27, a trade‑in of a 2013 van for $3,298 toward a 2023 Dodge Ram to support transportation shop needs, and an agreement with TNF Transportation for special transportation for a student designated as 'challenging' (the board described this as a last‑resort option; the exact daily contract rate discussed in the transcript was not specified). The board also approved the agreement for fire alarm inspections and several personnel items: acceptance of retirements and resignations, approval of Bill Kaibaben as a substitute sports staff pending clearances, appointment of Niko as an unpaid volunteer assistant baseball coach (retroactive to March 25), approval of summer workers, and staffing changes for 2026–27 (approved by roll call 6–2).
Under new business the board accepted the resignation of William Barach from the WIE board and appointed Janice Niemick effective April 21 through June 30, 2029. The board also approved three buses and drivers for the August 8 Cook Farm 200‑year anniversary event.
The meeting adjourned after citizens' comments and final board remarks.
Votes, motions and recorded roll calls are listed in the board minutes and reflected in the meeting transcript.
