Storey County accepted the low bid from KP Construction for the Fairgrounds improvement project and directed staff to draft a construction contract. Project manager Mike Northam said bids were opened on Feb. 6, 2026, and four bids were submitted; Dowell consultants vetted the submissions and recommended KP Construction as the apparent low bidder.
Northam explained the project scope: extend a water main and install a fire hydrant for the parking/arena area and animal needs; stub utilities for future restrooms; extend primary power to a pad‑mount transformer to support vendors and point‑of‑sale systems; add dark‑sky‑compliant area lighting; and construct an accessible ramp and ADA parking to improve access for ambulatory‑impaired attendees. The low bid amount was $1,129,888, and the project has partial funding of $615,000 from USDA.
Commissioner Mitchell moved to accept the low bid and direct staff to draft a construction contract; the motion passed unanimously.
