Board hears technology update: managed detection response, Chromebook repairs down, ADA web-compliance ahead of October deadline

Summary
District technology staff reported increased malware detections and said a new managed detection-and-response service reduced average incident response time to under 10 minutes; staff also warned that meeting upcoming ADA digital-accessibility requirements will require converting many public-facing PDFs and websites.
District technology staff briefed the Muskego-Norway School District board on April 13 about recent workload and security developments, saying help-desk staff closed about 1,267 tickets this year and Chromebook repairs have fallen while cyber threats have risen.
The staff member presenting the technology update said malware detections rose to 154 this year from 46 the previous year and described a new managed detection-and-response service to provide faster incident handling. "The average response time is under 10 minutes," the presenter said, and added that no incidents resulted in data being exfiltrated from the environment.
Staff also reviewed device-replacement timing (a 10-year network switching/routing cycle) and noted a reduction in Chromebook repairs: the presenter said repairs dropped to 728 this year, down several hundred from the prior year, in part because students are performing more in-house repairs.
On accessibility, the technology update warned the board about an October 27 federal deadline for phase-two ADA digital-compliance of public-facing websites and documents. Staff said PDFs will be the most time-consuming element because native PDFs are not screen-reader friendly and will need conversion or removal, and suggested consolidating platforms and vetting tools that enforce accessibility on creation.
Trustees asked whether classroom-facing platforms such as Google Classroom are affected. Staff said internal classroom documents that are not publicly posted have lower immediate risk but any document that is public-facing must meet accessibility standards.
