Council approves sports-complex pavement project after low bid and budget review

The council voted to approve resolution R26-016, moving forward with the sports-complex pavement project and recommending the contract include three additive items.

Speaker 3, a staff member who presented the project, said 15 bids were received and that "Over Construction was the low bid." He recommended awarding the contract with all three additives. Speaker 3 said the city budgeted $700,000 for the facility this year and that the project will use about $527,000, with testing and additives likely pushing the committed amount to a little over $540,000, leaving about $160,000 for subsequent phases.

The presentation noted the pavement work will provide a hard surface for future pickleball and futsal/basketball courts and will supply parking. Speaker 3 estimated the work would require about 70 working days and said basic striping by city staff could make the courts playable before final finishes are applied. "That leaves Josh about 160,000 to put towards either painting and striping the pickleball courts," Speaker 3 said.

Speaker 9 and other council members praised the use of a local contractor. The council moved the resolution, heard a voice vote in which members answered "Aye," and Speaker 2 announced that the motion passed.
