Humboldt County supervisors voted to adopt a new building-permit fee schedule, approving resolution 2026-03-09 after staff presented a comparative study of neighboring counties.
The resolution, presented by a board member overseeing planning matters, updates fees for typical residential and accessory structures and leaves detailed permits for wind and solar to be handled under separate ordinances. "This is a formal resolution to establish those fees," the presenter said during the discussion.
Board members discussed exemptions for agricultural buildings, noting that some ag structures remain exempt from full permitting but should still file a form that documents size and location so staff can verify setbacks and utility clearances. Supervisors emphasized the county’s aim to align fees with surrounding counties and to modernize an "out of date" schedule.
The motion to adopt the resolution passed on a roll-call vote with all members answering "aye." The board instructed staff to implement the new fee schedule and to continue preparing ordinance language for specialized permits such as wind and solar.
