Oneida County committee adds citizen lakes representative, approves conference attendance

At its Feb. 9 meeting the Oneida County Conservation/UW‑EX Education Committee voted to add a second citizen member to the committee so that lakes and rivers interests would have a dedicated representative. Vice Chair Linnaea Newman moved the addition and Lenore Lopez seconded; the motion carried unanimously. Michele Sadauskas said the county allows up to two citizen members by statute, that an agricultural representative is required by state law and that the new position would follow a public posting and application process before the committee forwards a recommendation to the County Board for appointment.
The committee also approved sending interested members to two upcoming events: the Wisconsin Land + Water Conservation Association annual conference (March 4–6) and the Wisconsin Lakes & Rivers Convention (April 15–17). Chair Collette Sorgel and others indicated they or staff would attend to support presentations by local participants; the motion to invite interested committee members and to pay admission and mileage carried with unanimous consent.
Sadauskas said she would confirm whether the additional citizen member would be funded through the County Board budget and would research whether adding a citizen member affects quorum or voting rules. The committee listed the citizen member, shoreland protection, PFAS updates and Assembly Bill 449 as items for the next agenda.
