The City Council on March 10 approved contract amendment No. 2 with engineering firm JUB for $64,700 to provide construction administration and special materials testing for the Southeast 8th Street sidewalk project. The amendment brings JUB's contract total to $104,200 for the work described.
Public Works Director explained that because federal funds are part of the project there are additional documentation and testing requirements; to save money the city will handle on-site observation with staff and use JUB for the remainder of construction-administration tasks and required materials testing (approximately $16,000 of the amendment was described as special testing). The director said using the city's staff for some inspection and JUB for specialized administration reduces costs overall.
Council member Stecklein moved approval of contract amendment No. 2; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The council directed staff to proceed with the amended scope of construction-administration services.
The amendment applies to the Southeast 8th Street project from College Avenue to Birch and is intended to fulfill federal funding compliance and testing requirements during construction.
