A staff presenter asked the council to accept a state and local cybersecurity grant of $100,000 from the Washington Military Department to purchase cybersecurity tools and configuration services for city systems.
"For your consideration tonight is the acceptance of a state and local cyber cybersecurity grant from the state of Washington military department in the amount of a $100,000," the presenter said. He said the grant is a no-match award and will trigger a year-end budget amendment. The grant includes professional services for configuration and the city will cover training from its operating budget.
Council members asked whether the grant applies to an existing project or creates new work; staff said this was identified as a new project and the grant will cover the full cost of the planned work.
