City to apply for WSDOT grant to fund airport perimeter fencing; council told city match ~ $27,500

Lauren Robinson, airport staff, presented a resolution to apply for a WSDOT grant to fund the second stage of airport perimeter fencing.
Robinson said the grant application requests WSDOT participation and that the overall project is now estimated to cost more than $1.1 million. "Attachment b is the resolution for a wash dot grant for a perimeter fencing project stage 2, in the amount not to exceed $27,500," Robinson said, noting that the city’s portion represents approximately 2.5 percent. She added the FAA is expected to fund about 95 percent of eligible construction costs.
Robinson cautioned that the grant does not cover some noneligible construction costs, for example a required black coating that the city must provide (she estimated that coating at under $50,000). She said design costs are ineligible for the grant because of timing constraints and that bids have not yet been received. Staff will later return to council to request construction administration and construction contracts once bids are in hand.
