City staff presented a proposal to hire an architecture firm to design a commercial kitchen and a food-truck park in the Cascade Industrial Center, after an earlier pilot of food trucks at 172nd and Airport Boulevard showed local demand.
"So we've been working on this project for some time," said Sarah, the staff presenter, who said the city issued a call for proposals and interviewed applicants before recommending Graham/Grama Baba Architects (listed in the packet) to do the design work. She said the Department of Commerce has approved grant funding to pay for design services only.
Council members thanked staff and asked whether construction funding was secured. Sarah said design costs will be covered by the Department of Commerce grant but the grant does not include construction funding; any construction phase will require separate funding and future council approvals.
The presentation did not include a proposed construction budget or timeline; staff said they will return with design documents and any subsequent contract requests as those items are developed.
