The Masconomet Regional School Committee voted on March 11 to approve its FY27 total grant fund expenditures budget of $44,951,409 and to assess the member towns a combined $36,907,691 for the coming year.
A committee member moved to approve the FY27 budget, specifying $44,603,961 in general fund operating expenses and $348,050 in general fund capital and debt service. The motion was seconded and carried on a roll‑call vote that recorded multiple yes votes and two no votes (Kendra and Kate). The committee then voted to assess the towns of Oxford, Middleton and Topsfield a combined $36,907,691; the district treasurer was directed to certify and transfer the assessments within 30 days of approval.
"I read every email that was sent to me," the committee chair said after the vote, thanking students, community members, central office staff, principals and teachers for their input and acknowledging the difficulty of the decisions. Committee members emphasized that they did not take the outcome lightly given the real‑world implications for students, teachers and administrators.
Following the approvals, the committee voted to enter executive session to discuss strategy related to negotiations with nonunion personnel concerning the superintendent‑elect, Heather Gallante, and stated it would not return to open session. The committee took no further open‑session actions after moving into executive session.
