Council approves letters seeking federal funds for shooting‑range design and Vancouver Lake cleanup

Jordan Bogie presented two congressionally directed spending (CDS) requests and asked the council to authorize support letters.
Bogie said the jail and sheriff's office requested $800,000 for architecture and design services to explore a long‑term range solution. “Their ask would be for $800,000 to help do some of that initial architecture and design services,” Bogie said. Council gave a thumbs‑up.
Bogie also asked for support to seek $500,000 in federal funds to advance Phase 3 of the Vancouver Lake cleanup and flushing channel work; the county had requested $500,000 from the state earlier and received $50,000, he said. “We'd ask for $500,000, the same amount that we asked the state for,” Bogie said. Councilors signaled support for pursuing federal dollars for the project.
Staff warned that the congressional appropriation windows can be short and timing is unpredictable; the county recently hired a grants coordinator (Diane) to help build a prioritized project pipeline and be ready when opportunities open.
