The Hawaiian Gardens City Council recognized artist Felix Quintana on April 22 for his work in the LA Metro "Through the Eyes of the Artist" poster series.
The council presented a certificate to Quintana and invited him to describe the cyanotype photographic-collage he created to capture everyday scenes in the one-square-mile city. Quintana said he photographed community life, described the cyanotype process as a photographic "blueprint," and thanked local students who helped or saw their images displayed on buses.
Maayan Alcantara, director of public art and design for LA Metro, said Metro Art commissions artwork for display inside more than 2,500 Metro buses and in customer service centers, and encouraged local artists to visit metro.net/art for information about artist opportunities.
Council members thanked Quintana and noted the poster's role in showcasing Hawaiian Gardens to transit riders.
