Clarkdale honors outgoing town manager; council authorizes negotiations with Lou Anderson

Council members and residents spent time recognizing Town Manager Susan Guthrie’s tenure and contributions during a March 24 session.
Vice Mayor Hunsetter and other council members praised Guthrie’s leadership, citing succession planning, staff development and more than $12 million in grant opportunities secured for the town. Former Mayor Doug Von Gassig called Guthrie “1000% devoted to the welfare of Clarkdale,” praising parks, water system work and grants that reduced the burden on the general fund.
“Take those lessons. Take what she's taught you, and how she's taught you to get things done,” Von Gassig said.
The council presented Guthrie with a commemorative gift and read excerpts from council evaluations that lauded her performance and noted improved operations.
Later, after a closed executive session on personnel and negotiations, Council moved to authorize the mayor to proceed with contract negotiations with Lou Anderson to serve as town manager. The motion was made and seconded and the council voted in favor.
The authorization directs the mayor to continue contract negotiations; council members did not disclose specific contract terms in the public session. Staff will return to the council with finalized contract details when available.
