County gives preliminary OK for pipeline encroachment on county right‑of‑way

During its March 23 meeting, the Griggs County Commission gave preliminary approval for a pipeline contractor to place pipe alongside a county road and to use the county easement for construction access, subject to restoration and final permitting.
Presenters said the preferred route would avoid removing a shelter-belt of trees on private land and would place the pipe adjacent to the county road; they warned that if the contractor needed to work beyond the road edge, access would be through the county easement. The presenters said tunneling beneath slews on the alternative alignment could be prohibitively expensive.
A commissioner moved to give preliminary approval for an encroachment or easement on the county side pending a legal description and required permits. The motion was seconded and passed by voice vote. Commissioners asked staff to prepare the legal description, confirm permit requirements and return the request for final approval once paperwork is complete. Presenters noted contractors have already ordered some pipe and need a timely response on routing.
