Town declares Moonshot community and proclaims April Water Conservation Month

Marie O'Brien, coordinator for the local Moonshot MCAN and staff with the Learning Alliance, told the council the community is tied for second in the state for third‑grade reading and described recent outreach including a regional summit and a film screening. "The Moonshot goal is that 90% of our children will be ready for kindergarten and reading on grade level by the end of third grade," O'Brien said. She noted the director’s cut of a documentary screened locally will be shown at the Vero Beach Film Festival and posted on YouTube after April 10.
The council also proclaimed April 2026 as Florida Water Conservation Month and encouraged residents and businesses to adopt water‑saving measures. The mayor noted the town’s focus on irrigation efficiency and recommended rain sensors and smart controllers as both water‑conserving and cost‑saving measures.
Both proclamations were ceremonial; council offered thanks to volunteers and local partners and encouraged the public to attend upcoming events and screenings.
