Council adopts three ordinances in unanimous votes; several housekeeping ordinances advance

The Town of Indian River Shores council approved three ordinances at second reading during its March 22 meeting, each passing unanimously by roll call vote.
Ordinance No. 587 updates short‑term vacation‑rental enforcement and was approved on second reading after the town attorney read the required legal language. Ordinance No. 588 reorganizes town administration by amending section 30.01 to establish departments for efficiency; Ordinance No. 589 repeals section 31.05 concerning contracts required for services. Each motion passed by roll call with all members voting in the affirmative.
Council also advanced a set of related, first‑reading items intended to consolidate and clean up administrative code language. Ordinance No. 590 would amend code language related to the Department of Treasury; Ordinance No. 591 would amend the powers and duties of the Department of Finance; Ordinance No. 592 would revise town manager duties (the council approved an amendment during first reading to remove references to "chief of police" and "fire chief"); and Ordinance No. 593 updates procurement procedures to make the town manager or designee the authorized purchasing authority. Those four items were taken on first reading and will return for a second reading later in the ordinance process.
