Washington accepts $390,000 stormwater planning grant and awards Rivers & Associates engineering contract

The City Council on Nov. 14 adopted a Grant Project Ordinance to pursue and accept a Stormwater Planning Grant for the Simmons Street Drainage Improvements (Project No. SRP‑SW‑ARP‑0095) and authorized the mayor to execute an engineering agreement.
Council records show the city received a Letter of Intent for $390,000 to fund stormwater planning for Simmons Street. By motion of Mayor Pro tem Richard Brooks, seconded by Councilmember Mike Renn, Council adopted the grant project ordinance. Council then authorized the mayor to execute an agreement with Rivers & Associates, Inc. for engineering services and approved a purchase order for Rivers & Associates in the amount of $390,000.
Why it matters: The funding and engineering contract start a planning phase for stormwater improvements on Simmons Street; staff told the council the city previously approved pursuing the funding at an April 18, 2023 meeting and that the grant will support design and planning work.
The grant ordinance and engineering purchase order were approved unanimously.
