Wood County Board Chair Lance Plimel said fundraising is complete for a Safe Haven baby box to be installed in the county, crediting supervisors (including Jeff Penskover) and the county health department for coordinating with the city.
Plimel described the project as low maintenance once installed and tied the effort to saving lives, pointing to a recent case elsewhere where a baby box reportedly saved an infant. “If we can save a child’s life somewhere, certainly well worth it,” he said.
Plimel noted the nearest existing baby box is in Reedsburg and said fundraising and coordination with the city and health department are complete; he did not specify the installation date or exact location.
Provenance: Fundraising completion and program description came during the health discussion on the program.
