Wood County Board Chair Lance Plimel said a new all‑purpose shelter at Powers Bluff is targeted to open by Memorial Day after about two decades of planning.
Plimel described the facility as "gorgeous," noting vaulted ceilings and stone fireplaces, and said it will host local events, mountain‑biking gatherings, weddings and larger functions tied to the park’s world‑class trail system. “There’s a fantastic new, all for all purpose building out there. And I mean, it is gorgeous,” he said.
Construction has faced minor delays because of materials availability, Plimel said, which has pushed back reservations; the county expects to have a reservation system once the target date is firm. He urged residents to take advantage of county parks and listed other nearby amenities, including Sarah Park, campsites and river frontage.
Plimel also said the county will work with its parks director on signage and wayfinding to make park entrances easier to find for drivers.
