The Cosmopolis City Council on Nov. 5 adopted Budget Amendment Ordinance 1400, a routine end-of-year adjustment, by motion during new business.
Staff walked the council through the preliminary 2026 budget, explaining one wording change on wage scales and an example of the levy impact on homeowners. Staff recommended taking the allowable 1% levy increase to help shore up reserves; they also described a proposed 3% cost-of-living adjustment for full‑time and part‑time positions in the draft budget.
Council members asked whether adoption of an interlocal policing contract with Aberdeen would require budget amendments; staff said the council could vote on the contract at the next meeting and adjust the budget before final adoption on Dec. 3 if needed. Staff also noted that some positions budgeted as FTEs would remain authorized but, if the contract were executed, would not be filled.
Council scheduled a final budget adoption for Dec. 3, with additional meetings possible during the budget cycle.
