The Manassas City School Board issued a formal statement at the joint meeting clarifying that Special Use Permit 2024-001 continues to govern the former Jenny Dean elementary site and that an earlier belief that a historic‑structure report would supersede elements of the SUP was incorrect.
"In light of this clarification, the school board will move forward with the deliberate and transparent process effective immediately to address the remaining obligations of the SUP," the board statement said, noting the board will undertake a comprehensive internal review of options for the old Jenny Dean building and site and will work with counsel and community stakeholders in an upcoming committee meeting.
The statement said the review will include "a full exploration of the school board's authority over the property, balanced with our shared responsibility to the community and the historical significance of the site." The board said it will invite council and other partners to an education support committee meeting to discuss options and next steps openly.
The board's clarification prompted no formal action during the joint meeting; members moved and approved adjournment shortly after the statement.
