Two related policies address alcohol and drugs in the workplace and drug and alcohol testing for employees; the updates tighten procedures and clearly assign authority to the director of schools to require testing under strong suspicion, rather than to principals or other supervisors. Beauchamp said the changes are largely clarifying and not new policy in substance.
The third policy update covers paid private tutoring: it prohibits private teaching or tutoring during regular school hours and adds language stating teachers who enter private agreements act independently and relieve the district of liability.
A motion to approve the first reading was moved and seconded and carried by voice vote; trustees asked for procedural details as the policies move toward final adoption.
