The Smyth County Board of Zoning Appeals elected its officers for 2013 and set its meeting calendar at a session on March 26, 2013.
John Saunders was nominated for chairman by Erwin Rowland and seconded by John DeBusk III; with no other nominations, the board voted unanimously to elect Saunders as chairman for calendar year 2013. Newell Johnson moved to nominate John DeBusk III as vice chairman; the motion, seconded by Rowland, carried unanimously. Saunders moved to nominate Newell Johnson as secretary; that motion, seconded by DeBusk, was approved unanimously, installing Johnson as secretary for 2013 (the written minutes list “2073,” a typographical error corrected here to 2013).
The board also approved the minutes of Jan. 3, 2012, on a motion from Johnson seconded by DeBusk, carried unanimously. Earlier in the record staff noted that a previously scheduled Jan. 8, 2013 meeting had not been conducted because too few members were present and was rescheduled for March 25, 2013 at 5:30 p.m.
Members recorded present for the March 26 meeting included John Saunders (Park District), Newell Johnson (Royal Oak District), Kim Davidson (Chilhowie District), Daniel Sturgill (Rye Valley District), John DeBusk III (Saltville District), Erwin Rowland (Atkins District) and Bill Moss (alternate); Tim Widenet (North Fork District) was absent. Staff members Clegg Williams and Becca Kirk were present to support proceedings. The meeting was called to order at approximately 5:30 p.m. and adjourned at about 6:00 p.m.
The board set its regular 2013 meeting schedule for the first Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m. when an application is filed; if no applications are filed, the record states the next scheduled meeting will be Jan. 7, 2014 (the transcript lists “2074,” which appears to be a typographical error and is corrected here to 2014).
