Village approves ordinance expanding deputy chief authority and reorganizing police command ranks

The Village of Bolingbrook on Aug. 27 passed ordinance 24-044 amending Chapter 32 of the Village Code to change the department’s command structure.
Under the ordinance, the Deputy Chief will be appointed by the Police Chief with the approval of the Mayor and Board of Trustees and will oversee day-to-day operations of the Police Department. The deputy will assume all duties and responsibilities of the Police Chief when the chief is absent. The ordinance also reduces the number of Police Commanders from two to one and increases the number of Police Captains from two to three.
Trustee Jose Quintero moved to pass the ordinance and Trustee Troy J. Doris seconded the motion. The roll call vote was 6–0 in favor (Carpanzano, Doris, Kelly, Lawler, Quintero, Zarate). The motion carried.
