The school board approved a revised calendar for the 2627 school year and approved the calendar for 2728 after a presentation by Tanya and principals Larson and Gaston. The calendar committee prioritized longer elementary/early‑learning conferences, more student contact days, reduced two‑day weeks and protected professional‑development (academy) days; trustees said the committee met those priorities in seven of eight categories.
Key calendar changes include expanded conference schedules (two 8‑hour conference days in August, November and February for certain grades), elimination or reduction of some two‑day weeks, returning four days to the high‑school schedule (bringing the high‑school student days to 175 while early‑childhood/elementary/middle remain at 171), moving finals into a full week rather than compressing them into two‑day weeks, and adjusting commencement so it more clearly marks the end of the school year.
Principals described efforts to preserve link‑crew transition days for eighth graders and to spread finals to reduce student overload. The revised 2627 calendar passed 6–1 and the 2728 calendar passed 6–1 on voice votes.
The board asked staff to confirm student day and staff day counts on the slides; presenters stated licensed staff days at 186. The calendars will be submitted to the Minnesota Department of Education for approval per MDE direction.
