Summary
The governing board approved an early guaranteed maximum price for demolition work on Maricopa High School’s 800 Building and historic gym to enable demolition and begin reconstruction next school year; staff said a final GMP will follow as designs progress.
The board approved an early guaranteed maximum price (GMP) Tuesday to cover the demolition package for Maricopa High School’s workforce development and gym renovation project.
Jacob Harmon told the board the GMP covers demolition of the 800 Building and portions of the historic gym as the first step in a larger reconstruction expected to proceed next year. Harmon said the early GMP is common for long-lead items and allows mobilization for demolition as soon as school concludes.
A board member asked why a complete final GMP was not yet available; Harmon explained that schematic design and construction documents for the remainder of the project are still in progress and that the early demolition GMP will roll into a final GMP at a subsequent meeting.
The board moved, seconded and approved the GMP for the demolition package by voice vote. No additional budget detail was provided in the motion; Harmon said the full GMP will be presented in future board meetings.
