Basin 5 watershed plan to seek town help with outreach; final draft expected in June

Karen Bates, of the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), updated the Clean Water Advisory Committee on the Basin 5 Total Basin Plan (TBP) update and public engagement strategy. Bates said the planning process is starting now, with a final draft expected in June and adoption planned for late fall.
Bates described Basin 5 as made up of many small watersheds that drain directly to Lake Champlain and said communication may be more effective when targeted to those smaller geographies. She described a multimodal outreach approach — story maps, PDFs, printouts, Facebook, Instagram and Front Porch Forum — and asked committee members what towns might be willing to do to distribute materials.
Dan Albrecht offered to collect outreach methods and forward them to municipal contacts. Committee members emphasized the value of tracking outputs and effectiveness so the team can refine outreach and better support towns.
The committee did not vote on the plan at this meeting; the discussion focused on communications strategies and identifying municipal partners for distribution and feedback.
