State MERP mini‑grants and energy assessments highlighted for municipalities

Ann Janda, Senior Energy Project Manager, updated the committee on the Vermont Buildings and General Services Municipal Energy Resiliency Program (MERP). Janda said MERP prioritizes municipalities with high energy burden but noted that none in Chittenden County currently meet that criterion. All communities, however, are eligible for $4,000 mini-grants available now, which can be used for ADA-compliance audits of municipal buildings.
Janda added that Buildings and General Services will open applications soon for contractor energy-efficiency assessments, which are an important prerequisite for eligibility for more competitive implementation grants. She recommended municipalities obtain an assessment to strengthen future grant applications.
