Board approves 2026–27 proposed budget and property tax report card

The Cornwall Central School District Board of Education voted to approve the proposed 2026–27 budget and the district's property tax report card at its regular meeting.

Board President (chair) called for the vote on the resolution to approve the proposed budget and the property tax report card. Board member Christian said he would "vote against the property tax report card" while still planning to "personally vote for the budget," arguing the district's chosen financing could create problems in future years. Despite that objection, the chair called the question and announced the motion passed.

The action followed a short period of procedural discussion and reminders that the formal budget hearing is scheduled for May 5 and that ballot materials and absentee ballots will be printed after the district finalizes documents. District staff noted there was no new information from New York State since the last presentation.

In the same meeting the board approved routine consent-agenda items (2, 4, 5 and 6) and later took separate votes on personnel actions and OU BOCES board appointments. A motion to approve personnel actions passed after one board member abstained; a later vote to affirm OU BOCES representatives also passed with no recorded opposition.

The board did not amend programmatic elements of the budget at this meeting; members and administrators said remaining procedural steps (public notice and the budget hearing) will continue to provide opportunities for additional community input.
