Board adopts calendar and business items, approves NSSEO budget and transportation contract

The Arlington Heights School District 25 Board of Education approved several business items during its April 21 meeting, all by unanimous votes.
Officer elections and meeting calendar: After reorganizing, the board appointed Greg Scapolato president (one‑year term), Kevin Michael vice president and Liz Nearman secretary; Lana O'Brien was confirmed as recording secretary. The board also approved the calendar of meeting dates, times and locations for the 2026–27 year.
Consent agenda: The board approved the consent agenda items—personnel report and addendum, treasurer's report, invoices, fixed-asset disposal report, and regular/closed session minutes of March 10—by roll call vote.
NSSEO budget: Stacy presented the proposed NSSEO budget and explained enrollment and tuition-rate adjustments, including measures to rebalance tuition allocations between elementary and high school placements and a private-placement line of about $800,000. The board voted to approve the NSSEO budget for 2026–27.
Dryden School builders‑risk claim release: The board approved a release of claim (E2J25528) tied to a March 20, 2024 overnight construction fire at Dryden School. Officials said builders‑risk insurance reimbursed the district for most costs, and subrogation negotiations with the construction manager's insurer resulted in a payment allocation of about $260,000; the board approved signing the release required by the other carrier.
Bus transportation contract extension: District staff recommended a five‑year extension with Cook Illinois / First Student, Inc., noting long relationships, market consolidation and comparative RFP experiences in neighboring districts. After questions about pricing and contract length, the board approved the extension, citing multi‑year stability and negotiated savings in later years.
Vote totals: Where recorded, votes on the action items carried by 7–0 roll call tallies. Several motions were made by Liz Nearman and seconded; Lana O'Brien called the roll for each vote.
