Los Banos Unified honors Superintendent Mark E. Marshall as he prepares to leave for Central Unified

The Los Banos Unified School District Board of Trustees honored Superintendent Mark E. Marshall on Tuesday evening, presenting a plaque and public remarks as he prepares to leave the district after eight years to take a post with Central Unified.

Board President (chair) said the board had hired Marshall in 2017 and credited him with leading Measure X and a series of facilities projects and academic initiatives. The chair noted that Central Unified’s board “ratified his contract and approved him unanimously” last week, and trustees offered thanks and best wishes for his next role.

Marshall, who read a diploma proclamation during the meeting, framed the recognition as a celebration of student success. “By virtue of the authority vested in me by the state of California and the governing board of Los Banos Unified School District, I certify that the students receiving the diploma have met both local and state graduation requirements,” he said while presenting diplomas to adult-education graduates.

Trustees used the recognition portion of the agenda to spotlight several district achievements during Marshall’s tenure, including passage of Measure X, new and modernized facilities at multiple campuses, and what Marshall described as improving academic metrics and recovering ground lost during the pandemic.

Marshall thanked staff, families and community partners and said he has worked to be “part of the community” during his eight years in Los Banos. The board concluded the celebration with a group photo and a short reception before returning to regular business.

The board did not take any personnel action at the meeting beyond the public recognition; Marshall’s acceptance of the Central Unified position was described in remarks by trustees during the recognition segment.
