Washington City Council on Jan. 9 authorized staff to engage the Piedmont Triad Regional Council (PTRC) to perform a market comparison update of the city's salary schedule, with a not‑to‑exceed amount of $35,000.
City Manager Jonathan Russell said PTRC completed a full salary study for the city in 2016 and that an update could be performed for roughly $16,000 compared with the $35,000+ cost of a full new study. Councilmember Bobby E. Roberson advocated updating the payroll classification plan every five years and suggested proceeding with a full review; staff said the larger figure reflects building the original database but that PTRC could include additional layers for a more in‑depth update if requested.
By motion of Councilmember Roberson, seconded by Mayor Pro tem Richard Brooks, council authorized engaging PTRC for a market comparison update not to exceed $35,000. The motion carried with the members present.
