At the Sept. 5 meeting of the Fox River Grove Village Board, resident Chip Cobler asked trustees to consider changing the village golf-cart ordinance so his family could use golf carts on Algonquin Road near the elementary school.
Cobler, identified in the record as residing at 107 Grace Lane, said his wife was recently stopped when accessing Algonquin Road to drop their children off at school. He told the board he “would like to formally request the Board consider changing the golf cart ordinance to allow golf carts on Algonquin Rd.” He added that he supports safety for all but believes “with the school zone speed limit, stop signs and police officers present during drop-off and pick-up, there would be no issues allowing golf carts to access Algonquin Rd. near the elementary school.”
Village President Marc McLaughlin thanked Cobler for his input and said the village would have internal conversations to determine whether an ordinance change could be made “without jeopardizing safety” on that thoroughfare. No motion, staff assignment, or timeline for follow-up was recorded in the meeting minutes.
