Trustees deny Class A license for Stella's and approve one for Kuwa Sushi with cap

At its Aug. 15 meeting the Fox River Grove Village Board voted to deny an application for a Class A liquor license for a new gaming location named Stella's and approved a separate Class A license for Kuwa Sushi.
Village President Marc McLaughlin asked for a motion on Ordinance 2023-13, to create a Class A license for Stella's, which had been discussed at the board's Aug. 1 meeting. Trustee Devin Hester moved to not approve Ordinance 2023-13; Trustee Jennifer Curtiss seconded. After discussion the board recorded a unanimous roll-call vote of Trustee Curtiss, Hester, Knar, Migdal, Schladt and Wall in favor of the motion. The motion to deny Ordinance 2023-13 carried.
On Ordinance 2023-14, to create a Class A liquor license for Kuwa Sushi at the site of the former Yummy Asian Bistro, Trustee Andrew Migdal moved to approve with an amendment changing the ordinance language to reflect nine Class A licenses rather than ten. Trustee Steve Knar seconded. The board again voted unanimously on a roll call of Trustees Curtiss, Hester, Knar, Migdal, Schladt and Wall; the motion passed.
The two votes were taken as part of the regular agenda; the board did not attach additional conditions to Kuwa Sushi’s license in the minutes and did not record separate dissenting votes. Both items were disposed of during the Aug. 15 public meeting.
The board’s actions on the two ordinances will be reflected in the village’s ordinance record and licensing files.
