Murray County board approves $5,500 dust-control treatment and replacement of racetrack water heater

The Murray County Board voted to allow Southwest Dust Treatment to apply calcium chloride across the fairgrounds gravel areas, approving spending not to exceed $5,500 charged to account 01-110-115-6260.
Justin Hoffman, who presented the request, said the county started the treatment last year to reduce dust during events and that some residual material remained from the previous application. "I am requesting up to $5,500," Hoffman said, noting the estimate would cover most of the gravel area and help avoid the safety risks of running a water truck while children are present.
Board members said the treatment had worked well last year and supported the expenditure. Committee member (S4) moved the measure; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
Hoffman also asked the board to replace a leaking water heater at the racetrack concession building. He said the heater began leaking during the last race of the prior season and recommended a plastic (nonmetallic) Marathon-style unit to avoid corrosion on an intermittently used building. "The water heater started leaking, so it's gonna have to get replaced," Hoffman said.
After discussion about cost and installer preference (Hoffman said Mike Lund had done prior plumbing work at the building), a motion to replace the water heater with a plastic unit was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The board asked staff to correct the accounting code cited in the dust-control motion (the final digits were clarified as 6260). Hoffman said he would keep the board updated on subsequent arena maintenance work and follow up once installations are scheduled.
