Two Westwood Junior High students who helped lead Richardson ISD’s first leadership summit described how the event taught emotional intelligence, collaboration and public-speaking skills and helped younger students build confidence.
Matteo Wolf, an eighth grader, told the Presenter the summit emphasized taking the lead when it matters and using skills learned at school to create "a really good outcome." Ellie Ortman, also an eighth grader, said the experience increased her confidence and that she planned to carry lessons in teamwork and communication into high school.
The segment was presented as part of the district’s regular communications. The Presenter thanked Matteo and Ellie for hosting and noted the district’s broader leadership goals: "We truly appreciate all that you do each and every day," the Presenter said.
The Presenter also recognized the Impact 12 student advisory committee and congratulated the district’s 2026 principals and assistant principals of the year. Volunteer Appreciation Month was noted, and the Presenter thanked parents, community members and business partners for their contributions.
District athletic and fine-arts achievements were highlighted: Richardson High School and JJ Pierce Theatre advanced in one-act play competitions, a Pierce High School student earned first place in UIL state diving, and Lake Highlands boys soccer reached the regional semifinals; several schools advanced to playoffs.
The Presenter closed by wishing students well for the remainder of the school year and reiterating the district’s commitment to supporting staff and students.
