Board approves Hartje family variance at Triboji Beach

The Dickinson County Board of Adjustment voted 5-0 Aug. 26 to approve a variance requested by Kyle and Kristin Hartje for several lots in Triboji Beach.
Kyle Hartje described a multigenerational connection to the property: his great-grandfather purchased two lots in 1930, his parents bought the property in 1979 and ownership was recently transferred. The applicants told the board they intend to obtain rural water but currently use a bored well that feeds multiple lots; Planning staff Megan Kardell advised them to have the well tested and to pursue a grant for testing.
Hartje said the design includes a storm shelter because of previous storm damage to vehicles; board members asked about drainage and the applicants said the low spot is to the north and they plan to use rain barrels and a garden to manage runoff. Kardell read a letter from Lee and Kathie Crum. After discussion, the board approved the variance 5-0.
The board then moved on to other business.
