The Dickinson County Board of Adjustment approved a variance requested by Rod Sather for Lot 146 of Plat McClelland’s Beach (104th Street, Spirit Lake) at its Aug. 26 meeting.
Sather said the property is a corner lot with a dead-end street; he explained the proposed garage entrance would be on the side of the property. Drew Fowler of Beck Engineering said soil-quality restoration and drainage were addressed in the submission and told the board the adjacent east lot is empty and the street functions as a private dead-end, reducing public safety concerns.
Planning staff read a letter from Corey and Jennifer Streyle. Board members confirmed that required front-yard setback in the improved area is 40 feet and discussed that the applicant’s plan is still preliminary; Oponski noted that floor plans had not yet been completed. After discussion, Susan Clark moved to vote and Cami Wills seconded; the board voted 5-0 to approve the variance.
The minutes record the approval and the board moved to the next item on the agenda.
