CCRPC previews FY24 calendar, equity statement and announces planner hire

At the June 14 meeting the CCRPC recommended its FY24 meeting calendar for board approval, received an equity update including a draft equity statement scheduled for July, and announced the hiring of planner Sara Muskin, who will begin remotely in July and relocate to Vermont in September.
The Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission's Joint Executive and Finance Committee recommended approval of the proposed FY2024 meeting calendar and discussed internal equity and staffing updates on June 14.
Emma Vaughn presented the FY24 schedule and said staff reviewed calendar dates to avoid cultural or religious conflicts; the annual meeting was moved from the third Wednesday to Tuesday, June 18, 2024 to avoid Juneteenth (June 19). The committee voted to recommend board approval of the FY24 calendar (motion by Chris Shaw, seconded by Mike O'Brien).
Charlie Baker provided an equity update, thanking Equity Advisory Committee members and saying a first draft of an organizational Equity Statement should be ready for review at the July Executive Committee meeting. He said an intern is assisting with equity-related revisions to the ECOS plan and reported CCRPC joined a government alliance on race and equity to access national resources. Baker also suggested adding Juneteenth to the CCRPC personnel policy as an official holiday for staff.
On staffing, Baker announced the hire of Sara Muskin as a new planner. Muskin is finishing a Master of Public Health in North Carolina, will begin work remotely in July and plans to relocate to Vermont in September. Baker said Muskin's public-health background will complement staff expertise in housing and equity; he also noted potential future hiring on the transportation side to cover retirements and project needs.
The committee previewed the draft annual meeting agenda (June 21, 2023) and confirmed quorum for the meeting. There were no other business items.
