During the public comment portion of the April 7 meeting, Gerald Magulik questioned the board about the volleyball coach’s contract and criticized the board for routinely starting 6:00 p.m. meetings 20–25 minutes late.
Magulik said community members consider the coach to have been "a nice coach" and said many people are upset that her contract was not renewed but "are too scared to say anything." He asked who would be hired to replace her and said he expected more information at a future meeting. Magulik also said, "I consider you unprofessional" in reference to repeated late starts.
Board members and staff responded that the board cannot discuss personnel matters in public session; the moderator reminded the commenter that public comment is not a question-and-answer period and that the board would take the remarks under advisement. No public explanation for the coach’s contract decision appeared on the meeting record.
