The Natural Resources Committee voted Nov. 3 to approve a resolution authorizing the county administrator to execute documents necessary to negotiate the sale or transfer of a Ladies Island property for use by the Blufford/Bu ford County school district (described in the packet as the Sea Island Parkway tract), with a maximum purchase price not to exceed $2,250,000 subject to final due diligence and school-district acceptance.
Mike McShane, chair of the county’s Green Space Committee, recommended approval and described the project as a collaborative effort involving the school board, county engineering and planning staff and the green-space committee. He said the purchase would allow the school board to take ownership and expand outdoor educational opportunities near Ladies Island Middle School; staff noted the county’s engineering and public-works teams have worked on alignment and future improvements.
When asked, an agent for the landowner, Ethan James of Charterland Realty, confirmed parcel ownership information and tract sizes: the front tract is about 2.5 acres owned by Steve Barker (Barker Associates/Terry Barker) and additional adjoining acreage is owned by other named individuals. The committee moved and voice-voted to proceed with the negotiation and due diligence; staff will return with final terms for the school board’s and council’s actions as required.
