Measure K oversight committee reports no bond activity in FY24–25, outlines readiness steps

Roxana Vasquez Calderon, chair of the Measure K Citizens Bond Oversight Committee, presented the committee’s annual report to the Santa Maria-Bonita School District board March 11, saying the fiscal year covered was a start-up year with no bond proceeds or expenditures to review.
"Although no Measure K funds were spent during this initial year, the committee takes its responsibility to the community seriously," Vasquez Calderon said, describing formation activities including the inaugural meeting on April 16, 2025, leadership elections (vice chair Dave Cross; secretary Gregory Follett), committee orientation to statutory duties and approval of a regular meeting schedule.
The committee described its oversight role under California law — reviewing bond expenditures when available, monitoring project timeliness, conducting site visits when appropriate and reporting regularly to the board and community — and said it will post meeting notices consistent with the Brown Act. The committee encouraged community members to apply to fill vacancies and said information is posted on the district website.
Board members asked about vacancies and public access; the committee and staff confirmed meetings are subject to public notice requirements and that an application remains available on the district website for interested residents.
The board acknowledged receipt of the oversight report and thanked the committee for its work preparing for the implementation phase of Measure K.
