Torrance Unified trustee Park announces resignation; district to accept applications to fill vacancy

Trustee Park announced she will resign from the Torrance Unified School District board because of a housing problem that left her unable to meet residency requirements for her trustee area. She said the decision stems from mold found in her apartment and the need to move quickly after the birth of a child.
Several trustees praised Park's service and advocacy for students and described her departure as a loss to the district. Superintendent Stowe reviewed the replacement process the board will follow: the board has up to 60 days to appoint a replacement, staff will publish a vacancy notice and accept applications, and the board expects to bring names forward by the April 20 meeting; if the board does not appoint a person (or if the appointee declines), an election for the unexpired term would be held in November.
Trustee Park said she hopes to remain connected to district work in the future; trustees offered personal tributes and a moment of remembrance for a retired counselor before adjourning the meeting.
