Council enacts 25 mph limit and two new stop intersections for Somerset subdivision
Summary
Washington City Council adopted two ordinances to set a 25 mph speed limit on all streets in the Somerset subdivision and to add stop conditions at Somerset Drive at Albemarle Drive and at Stratton Place.
The Washington City Council on Jan. 10 adopted two ordinances affecting traffic control in the Somerset subdivision: a 25 mph speed limit on all streets in the subdivision and stop intersections at two locations on Somerset Drive.
By motion of Councilmember Bobby E. Roberson, seconded by Councilmember Mike Renn, Council adopted an amendment to Chapter 18, Section 102(d) to list "All streets within the Somerset Subdivision" as nonhighway streets subject to a 25 mph limit. Council also adopted an amendment to Chapter 18, Section 77 adding stop conditions at Somerset Drive from Albemarle Drive and at Somerset Drive from Stratton Place.
Both measures were approved by recorded vote at the meeting. The changes are intended to increase safety for neighborhood traffic; the minutes do not include traffic study data or speed survey results, nor do they specify implementation dates beyond formal adoption.
