Planning commission recommends BZA approve variance tied to Camp Convenience Station purchase

At its March 28 meeting the Smyth County Planning Commission voted to recommend the Board of Zoning Appeals approve a variance related to the county's planned purchase of the tract where the Camp Convenience Station sits.
Zoning Administrator Becca Creasey told the commission the county is under contract to purchase the tract but the seller was unwilling to sell additional adjacent parcels needed to meet the minimum lot-size requirements for lots without public water and sewer. Because the county cannot obtain the extra land, staff said the county is applying for a variance to be exempt from the lot-size requirement.
The commission voted unanimously to recommend that the Board of Zoning Appeals approve the variance. David Spence moved for the recommendation; Paul Shepherd seconded and the motion passed 7-0. The recommendation will be forwarded to the Board of Zoning Appeals for consideration.
