The board approved a contract (Item 5.05c) with Paradise Construction & Contract Management Inc. to remove and demolish six modular classrooms at Orange Grove Middle School for an amount not to exceed $74,800 after staff explained the portables are beyond repair due to roofing failure, wood rot and water intrusion.
Trustees asked whether the district would receive any compensation for the portables; staff said the units are so deteriorated they will be demolished off-site and will not yield revenue. Trustees requested a district‑wide inventory and photos documenting condition, age and end‑of‑life status to inform future decisions about portables and permanent building use.
During the consent agenda the board also approved field trips, purchases and contracts. Trustee De La Torre sought clarity on a proposed trip to the national speech and debate tournament in Richmond, Virginia (22 students, four chaperones at $2,161 per student) and on a manufacturer price increase that added $71,000 to an instrument purchase. Superintendent and staff provided estimates of remaining grant funds (an approximate $5.53 million balance for identified learning-recovery block funds through 06/30/2028) and said they would supply a detailed report on grant uses.
Votes: The demolition contract passed by roll call (4–1). Several consent items were approved with recorded votes, including a consent-action block that passed with a 4–0–1 notation earlier in the meeting.
Next steps: Staff will provide a site‑condition report with photographs and an inventory of portables across the district and will post more detailed grant-use information online as requested by trustees.
